Paralio - I/O for the parallella

Postby TomKeddie » Fri Jul 10, 2015 10:17 am

I've been working on an I/O board for Parallella for a while now. I'm busy with family duties so fun stuff like this doesn't get as much attention as I would like.

My goal is low speed io for hobbyists. No differential pairs or matched traces, double sided board, simple and cheap. If there is demand we can work together to get a bunch assembled, I'm not going to be able to do this on my own.

My feature list for the board is

- USB serial converter (mini usb with no power connection)
- Xilinx jtag (2mm 14 pin)
- ARM jtag (2.54mm 20 pin)
- level converters to either 3.3v or 5v on all 7010 i/o (7020 are n/c)
- Arduino compatible i/o connector for reuse of cheap peripherals like relay boards, motor controllers etc.
- HD74480 LCD interface
- 8 LEDs on GPIO
- LED on USERLED
- 4 input buttons (active low)
- i2c support
- reset button
- fan power

Notes
- only one of the jtag connectors can be used at a time, this is important.

Updates
- rev 1.0 viewtopic.php?f=11&t=3081&p=15302#p15302

Rev 1.0 update

Postby TomKeddie » Fri Jul 10, 2015 10:32 am

Rev 1.0 came back late last year, I've only recently got to testing them out. I've hand soldered everything, it isn't as hard as it looks.

What works
- Xilinx jtag
- ARM jtag (reset needs checking)
- USB serial
- Fan power

What should work but is untested (and won't be tested unless someone builds one)
- all level conversion
- Arduino pinout
- HD74480 LCD interface

What is broken
- buttons wired on the wrong side of level converters
- i2c not bidirectional
- wrong package on uln2803
- cap beside xilinx jtag clashes with cap on parallella
- i/o voltage selector and power connector block access to uSD
- random large vias in led area
- PEC_NORTH connector clashes with uln2803 (as above, package is wrong anyway)

I've put my remaining 1.0 pcbs on Tindie at https://www.tindie.com/products/TomKedd ... -pcb-only/

BoM is at https://github.com/TomKeddie/electronic ... io-1.0.txt Note that PARALLELLA_R1_NO_ELINK represents both connectors.

Once I've sold through the 1.0 pcbs I'll start work on 1.1 (boards are back, look ok).

You can buy connectors in Nth America from AVNET at http://avnetexpress.avnet.com/store/em/ ... e=1&rank=0
