Designing an SDR with the Epiphany chip

Postby rsundar1987 » Mon Apr 03, 2017 6:11 am

Hi everybody,

I am designing a Software Defined Radio for my final year engineering project and I am very interested in the use of the Epiphany co-processor for certain operations in the signal processing chain. I am already experimenting with the Epiphany-III on the Parallella for this purpose. But I have a few questions about the Epiphany processor which would greatly assist the further usage of the Epiphany on my SDR:

I) Is the Epiphany-III chip alone available at Digikey/mouser or any other distributor?

II) is there a 64 core processor? I read a technical report from Ericsson which used the 64 core Epiphany?

III) What is TDP of the 16-core processor?

Thanks

Sounds like a great project!

I would recommend this 3-card sandwich setup:
I've tested gnuradio (and other basic stuff) on this setup and it works great. Other people have been able to communicate directly between the Epiphany and ADI chips

The Parallella + FMCOMMS cards you can buy directly from a distributor, but the ParaSDR card you need to manufacture yourself (gerbers + BOM are open source).

No.

A chip was taped out: http://www.adapteva.com/docs/e64g401_datasheet.pdf
But no boards / chips available for sale.

~2W
