DIY prototype case

I spent few hours today for building a simple case. I used spare parts and leftover in my workshop.
It's in early prototype stage.

The board is mounted on a steel plate with 3 mm bolts.
I marked each mounting hole on the board, and made four 3 mm holes.

Size of the case bolt is 6 mm in diameter, length is around 6 cm.

Board clearance is around 1.5 mm to 2 mm.

Hi penguin,

Check the board design. You will see that three of the holes are earth and one is positive power.
Chances are, by connecting all four to the bottom steel plate that you have shorted the power.
Hopefully you haven't fried the board.
Also you need to ensure sufficient air-flow through that 'tunnel' for cooling.

Good to see a bit of creative recycling, though.

You need to install jumper J15 to connect the 4th standoff pad to 5VDC and this is not installed in the factory so you are probably okay. But pay attention to the components and pads close to the standoffs and make sure there are no shorts.

I went high and low while reading your posts.

I'm contemplating of mounting a Low Temperature Stirling Engine on top of the heat sink:
runs a fan or pumps to circulate liquid coolant, charging the emergency power battery.

I created a simple case for the parallella board that fits the large heat sink. This is a STL model suitable for 3d printing.

I did not design a lid for it as I am using an external fan blowing over the large heat sink.
