Few questions.

Postby hex » Tue Dec 18, 2012 1:16 am

1a) Once the SDK is installed, does the Parallella appear as an OpenCL platform?
1b) Will multiple Parallella boards appear as multiple OpenCL devices on the same platform?

2) What is the fastest interconnect between these devices and/or host? USB 2.0? 3.0? [Gbit] RJ-45? Wi-Fi? Non-standard? Some crazy hack involving SATA?

I'll probably have more questions later.

Thanks!

tnt, you are right.

The dual core ARM on the Parallella board is the host running the O/S. The Epiphany chip is the coprocessor. Here is some information we posed a while back. The connection between the ARM and the Epiphany is a point to point link. The Epiphany coprocessor resides within 1GB of reserved space within the the ARM's 32 bit address map and can share the DRAM on board with the ARM. We will add more information very soon...

For clarification, at present ...

The COPRTHR SDK will provide a platform implementation (libcoprthr-e) with the Epiphany co-processor as a compute device.

The COPRTHR SDK does provide OpenCL support for ARM via a different platform implementation (libcoprthr).

By the time the majority of the parallella boards ship, it is almost certain that a platform with Epiphany + ARM will be available.

Answer to 1b) at the beginning of this thread ... if you have multiple boards connected over a network, a new feature in the COPRTHR SDK should allow them to be seen as a single platform via the STDCL API that leverages OpenCL. Using raw OpenCL the networked devices will be accessible via CLRPC but appear as separate platforms in the loader.
