Turn off (wireless key n mouse)

Postby doddy1985 » Mon Jun 09, 2014 4:35 pm

I'm having no trouble booting the board. I am currently using the board with a wireless key n mouse combo (logitek mk 330 as recommended on another post). This works great for me. I haven't had a chance to do anything cool with the board yet but was really just getting my fan and case in place and making sure everything was working okay.

So i wanted to graciously power down just doing from command line:

sudo shutdown -h now

I get the display showing something like 'system will shutdown now'. As I recall i just have to hit return key or wait and ubuntu turns itself off. I waited a while (and tried hitting return key a couple times) but the board never fulled turned off as the display showed the same 'system will shutdown now'.

I eventually just switched my power off but I didn't want to get into the habit of just removing power to the board while the OS is running. Is this possibly a problem with power getting to the USB port (I'm using the one next to hdmi out) when shutting down? Therefore I can't do anything with keyboard? Should I just keep waiting for power off? Or is it okay just to hit the power switch?

I want to treat me new friend nicely so it'll live with me a while :)
Any suggestions/recommendations welcome! Thanks!

The board can't shutdown it's own power, there is no power switch so it's always on.
Just do a shutdown / halt and when it display the final 'power off' message (don't remember the wording), just cut the power.

To avoid having to unplug it from the wall each time, which can be annoying, I recommend an in-line power switch. I got mine from Adafruit: https://www.adafruit.com/products/1125. It's just like one you'd see on a lamp.
