Parallella Community

I am pretty new to Parallella so these might be pretty simple questions that I'm asking so bare with me.

Do I connect all of the cables into a laptop's ethernet port, USB port, HDMI port, etc? (I think this is called using it as an embedded device)

Or do I connect all of the cables into a separate monitor, a separate mouse, an ethernet outlet in the room, etc? (I guess this is called a standalone device)

Does the choice between either of these 2 options affect the installation procedure?

Can it work as an embedded device as well?

"Embedded device" usually means you're putting it into some sort of system, like a car. You can do that with the parallella, but I don't think that's related to your question.

I think what you're asking is whether you can use it headless - without keyboard, mouse, or monitor.

It can just be plugged into an ethernet hub or switch (or router which contains one of those) and accessed from a remote machine. The only thing to determine or configure is the IP address on your network. It should just boot from the sdcard up once power is applied.
