I viewed the contents of both files and found the the file WITHOUT the tilde had the modified cores (1) but the one WITH the tilde had the same number of cores as in the beginning (16)

See my reply above and if you need further convincing try searching the web to find out the meaning of files which end in tilde :)

I'm sorry but I still don't understand what the problem is. I learned that the files with the tilde at the end are just backup files and can be deleted easily. The file (host.c) without the tilde has the modified number of cores (1) but when I run the mandelbrot program, the speed and graphics haven't changed at all.

Sorry, I'm new to Parallella and Linux in general. Thanks a bunch for helping me out.

After editing did you type:

$make clean
$make

So that the old binaries are deleted and new ones are build from your modified source?

No, I didn't do that. Thank you for the heads up.

Is there anything else I need to change besides the "rows" and "cols"?

Do I have to do anything with the epiphany.c file?

Try without making changes there, and then try with, to see if it does make a difference :)

Don't forget to "make clean" and "make" each time you modify the source.

Cheers,

Andrew

Alright, thanks so much for your help. I ended up having to edit 3 files (epiphany, host, and shared_data) and everything worked. :D

Thanks again. I appreciate it.
