a HDMI chip question

Postby theover » Wed Jul 16, 2014 11:07 pm

I looked at the ADV7511 datasheet, and saw it should be able to generate 12 bit color.

I would like to experiment with my full screen capabilities, so generating a 2560x1440 WXGA with 12 bit per color component (36 bits/pixel) would be uber cool.

Does anyone (Andreas ?) know without having to look much up if this is possible as a special mode with the Parallella board, or is this not possible because of chosen bus-widths and AIX bandwidths ?

Don't get me wrong having this chip well coupled with the Zynq is worth more than $100, it's just something that occurred to me.

Hi Theo, the ADV7513 can deal with 12bit samples, but that requires 24 bits connected between the FPGA and the ADV and we only have 16. At least that's what I get from the tables in section 4.3.2 of the programmer's guide.

Because this is single-link HDMI we're limited in any case to 165MPix/sec., so 2560x1440 (QHD? I thought WXGA was 1280x800 or some such) would limit you to something like 30fps.
