Serial as standard port

Postby paladrone » Mon Jul 21, 2014 4:01 pm

Hi,

I have a parallella board, and I know that the Serial port come by default as a terminal, actually I can talk with my parallela via UART without problems.

However, I have a motion sensor and a wish to connect it to the parallela via UART, but I can't because is a console terminal.

Someone tried to disable the console TTPS0 and turn it as a standard serial port?
I don't know if it's a config issue, or I need to modify something else.

Thank you for you attention and comments.

Best regards

Luis

As far as I know you would need to:

  • Edit and recompile the devicetree file (to devicetree.dtb) so that the console is no longer put on /dev/ttyPS0
  • Disable the getty on PS0 (only required for headless image AFAIK) - see Ubuntu docs

The current devicetree and kernel settings no longer use the UART as a console like they used to. If you follow the latest "Creating a Parallella SD Card" then /dev/ttyPS0 will be free for your use.

Thank you people, you are amazing.

Now the TTYPS0 works as a standard serial port. :D

FHuettig, you were right.
