Why so hot?

Hi Guys,

I was talking to someone on another forum about the Parallella and mentioned it gets pretty hot, mine requireing a large heatsink.

He was vey surprised about this as he has a dev board with a Zynq 7010 (Zybo 7010) with no heatsink and no fan and the 7010 runs at room temperature.

So this got me wondering why the Zynq on the parallella runs so hot?

Because it's a small and densely populated board. My guess is that their board is bigger and possibly has a smaller BOM. If you take the ZedBoard, for example, it's much larger and has a fair bit of space around the Zynq.
