Heatsink and TIM

I bought the parallella back when they first came out (I do have the bigger heatsink though), but kind of put it away as I was prototyping with the Odroid. Now however, I have a really great use-case scenario for this board but it seems that I'm missing the thermal tape for the heatsink. Can I apply regular TIM paste to the heatspreader? And for the Zinq IC, can anyone recommend a good thermal tape (to make sure the heatsink stays put) ? Finally, is it possible to order just the thermal tapes from Adapteva?

Hi pal.
i'm not an expert but i think that regular thermal paste (like the one used with intel processors with custom heatsink) should be fine.
maybe you should wait official response from moderators.

i thnik they used the thermal tape because is more easy to apply. (personal thinking without scientific knowledge)

anyway i suggest you to use xtemp utils to monitor the temperature of the board.

in this case you can verify if the heatsink is placed correctly because the temperature should drop!
i suggest to monitor idle temperature before and after mounting the heatsink.

you can find some very useful info at this post:

i received the board today and without this post i was lost.
