Desktop Parallella Epiphany problem

Postby leon_heller » Thu May 19, 2016 3:19 pm

I've just received a Desktop board I ordered from Digi-Key a couple of days ago. I've tried running a couple of the Epiphany apps, and get a 625 bus error, such as this one with eprime:

parallella@parallella:~/epiphany-examples/apps/eprime$ ./run.sh
./run.sh: line 8: 625 Bus error ./prime.elf ${PRIMES_PER_CORE}

Also, I've noticed that the LED that flashes continuously on the Kickstarter board stops flashing after a couple of minutes. A simple test program compiled for the ARM runs OK.

the ztemp program shows that the Zynq chip temp. is 77.1 C, which seems excessive. The heat sink is attached, of course, and the board is vertical.

Does this mean that the board is faulty?

I don't know but I have the newer model and I still have to put a fan on it.

I've got the Ground Electronics case and fan. I'll try that.

I agree, 77 °C seems excessive.

Mine is stable at 63 °C according to 2016.3.1 ztemp.sh, > 48 hours, with CPU quiet ;
it's an early Kickstarter model (7020 Zynq) with a tiny heatsink (just covering the Zynq), temperature of the room 21°C.

With a big fan I go down to 43 °C.
Is your power 2A or (much) more ? We have to be careful about the power specifications, as you certainly know.
There is an official list somewhere on the forum.

PS has 2A rating.

The large heat sink wasn't making very good contact (I got one side cocked up slightly by a connector), so I replaced it with the two supplied with the aforementioned case, after removing all traces of the adhesive pads and cleaning the tops of the Epiphany and Zynq chips with some IPA. It's about 70 C now (no fan). I still have the problem with the Epiphany chip.

My original Kickstarter board is about 56 C, no fan.
