Ah, so you still want to use the FPGA — for implementing DSP blocks and/or interfacing with RF hardware. Curious as to whether you have a particular application in mind or just SDR in general?

Amateur radio, direct sampling, below 30 MHz. I expect it to be a long journey, and anything I develop may be obsolete by the time it's working, but, it's a learning exercise.

Part of "Open Source" is that it is Open Ended.
I haven't got a clue where I will end up with my cards, but I will be awfully disappointed if I don't enjoy getting there.

What's the current per-board 5v current consumption? Since the boards come with 2A supplies, it's obviously less than 2A, but is there a known spec'd value?

The current varies with each board. This is because the Zynq and Epiphany chips have fairly high leakage currents that are per chip dependent. That being said, here are some rough numbers we have seen:

-Running u-boot: ~0.45A
-Fully loaded with hdmi bit stream 0.9-1.2A

I am waiting for confirmation from the Adapteva folks, but I may have found a way to monitor the temperature of the Zynq under Linux, using the latest default SD image.
