Hi Andreas,

Sorry, I only just saw your post.

I think that neural networks are a great application - I think that it will get a great boost in speed but on top of that it is a great, non-trivial learning exercise. I've found the learning experience demanding and satisfying and I've been very pleased with the traffic to my blog. I hope that others have picked up a few tips along the way as well.

The Epiphany has delivered everything I'd hoped for. At the end of the process I hope to be able to demonstrate what the speed up and learn about performance tuning.

the best open source artificial neural networks are Matlab, neuroph, weka and Pybrain
