They have already a sensor board made which is connected with a Zedboard:


The current version handles the sensor frontend, debayer, scaling, color space conversion, FPN correction, HDMI Output, etc...

isn't it just for film making? are they also planning on image processing and intelligent cameras that can take actions in real time?

It is first an open source project, and it depends which application you want to make of it.
First of all you will need a working camera at all, what you then doing with the image data is your choice...
So, the base to run an image sensor and gathering the frames is the same, without making a working "camera"
you will not be able to for example detect a face on it or whatever you want
In my case I want to compress each frame and store it on a SD card for example....

in fact I was thinking more about the cost of a high quality camera sensor, I guess that's what film makers are concerned about, right? and optics, optics can be very expensive too. but as you say they are probably thinking of having a good common base and then a few declinations depending on the application. I'm looking for a low cost intelligent camera.

Great to see your post here on the forum. Send me an email at "andreas" at adapteva.com and we'll get it going. At a minimum, we can get you some Parallella 7020s and breakout boards. We have donated extensive amounts of hardware to folks working on interesting projects who promise to boot up the boards and do something interesting with them.

I love the AXIOM project and want to make the Parallella part of it if at all possible. Of course I am extremely biased, but I believe the Parallella is a better fit for you than the Microzed in every criteria.
