No /dev/epiphany device

Postby Pavel » Sun Jul 20, 2014 5:50 pm

I have a Parallella board.
I had problems with ubuntu-14.04-140611.img image so I switched to ubuntu-14.01-lxde-14.03.06.img.
I also use Linux kernel without HDMI support (“headless”).
I have built Epiphany SDK but when I try to use E-UTILS (e-reset, for example) I get an error like "/dev/epiphany not found" .
Actually I see no "/dev/epiphany" device in the filesystem.
What can be the issue?

Ah, so my guess is that you've got a bleeding edge SDK which expects a kernel with Epiphany driver/module. However, the current kernel build doesn't have this AFAIK. Safest option may be to checkout an older commit of the SDK.

Someone else who knows more about this may also be able to comment further :)

I have built from these sources:
https://github.com/adapteva/epiphany-sd ... .10.tar.gz

Which revision should I use?

That is the release version and should not be looking for /dev/epiphany, as 9600 suggested. I suppose double check you did indeed download the release version?

And actually, looking through the scripts that build epiphany-libs, I do not see where it checkouts out a specific revision, so it would seem to download the latest version and build that. For now, you can switch to the epiphany-libs directory, clean it (with ./build-libs.sh -c) then checkout the release with "git checkout 5.13.09.10".

...this should probably be patched upstream if it is indeed the case.

Is there a kernel source tree available which supports the /dev/epiphany device?

Currently everything is done through mmap and /dev/mem, but we are currently working on a new driver here (some exciting stuff....)
