This is not just with the bps speed on the client side.
Today I've hooked up one of my board to uart, to do some advanced tests and was surprised that the output is not completely clean 115200bps.
I'm used to see a tiny powerup glitch, but this much more then expected.
My board is booting fine and this is what I get on uart:
dL<88<<88<<88<88x<88p<<88x<88q<<88x<88p<<88q<<88q<<888p<<8dYyt4y55]y5pt4YyyYtYYtYy5qt5]yt5YYt5xTYYYy5t5y5t5YYt4ypt5yYT4YYxYY5yTYyYTY]xtYYt5YyYTYYyt4yyYTYYY5YyTyYt5YyYt5YYt5ypt5YYxt5Yy5y5xxYYt5y

You clearly see that something glibberisch is send before something is send in 115200 bps.
However - the u-boot output is also send without an SD card inserted - unless that gliberisch stopped your terminal from printing, which my xterm fortunately didn't.
I've tried a few standard bps rates, but couldn't read the first bit pattern.
Will try to get it on scope later today to measure what frequency it is.

It starts with long time low voltage, then many bursts of 5MHz output, high voltage, then normal boot output.
The bursts itself are split into blocks with 5MHz and 2.5ms low voltage pauses.
For me it looks a bit like SPI clock signal or such, but why are those on console uart?

Hello,

I ordered an accessory bundle from Adapteva and it just arrived today. The only problem is that even with the cables they sent me, I'm still having issues. With their power cable the LED is now flashing. Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Hello,

I also experienced the problem (parallella board didn't respond correctly on putty).

First of all, check and check again your power supply ! don't use an unregulated power. The correct voltage (written 5V on the transformer) and correct current (>2A) is unsufficient to say that it's a good power supply because you need voltage regulation.

Secondly, remember that the parallella board UART have 3.3V voltage's level. check that your USB to serial converter is compatible with 3.3V UART unless, you will see uncomprehensive messages written in putty (or any other hyperterminal) even with the correct 115200 bauds.

Thirdly, don't think that a fan is an option because you really need one every time the board is powered.

return back to say if it works. Hope that will help.

I got the same problem. Jumbled string on RX/TX.
FTDI USB serial converter is connected to TP1. 115200 8N1, no parity, no flow control. I also have tried several serial terminal tools - Minicom, putty, GtkTerm, Teraterm. I have tried Xon/Xoff for flow control as well.
I used the inbox PSU and large heat sink. A fan is attached with separated power supply.
The board will failed in booting into Linaro occasionally. Fail/Pass rate: 4/6. That's why I want to check the booting message.

Is there any update on this post?
Thanks!

My board does also not appear to boot - I use a 5A power supply and see one green light. I get no hdmi output. I have tried to attach a known good serial cable, and see *no* output with the correct gtkterm settings - I have swapped the green and white serial cables too, this with and without an attached sdcard. I am at a loss as to where to look next. Any suggestions gratefully received!

I replaced my power supply with this one -> http://uk.rs-online.com/web/p/plug-in-p ... ly/7066502 - after some support from adapteva and now mine works fine :D
