By enabling devtmpfs the device nodes are automatically created.

I did that still no luck - usb-devices return all the devices.

USB soundcard is not enabled by default for now.

Try these command and post the output.

$ cat /proc/cmdline

$ dmesg | grep devtmpfs

It seems that devtmpfs was enabled on your Parallella.
Maybe you can use USB drives.
USB sound adapter is not enabled by default for now because it is disabled by kernel config.
If you want to use a USB sound adapter, you have to modify the kernel config and rebuild the kernel.

viewtopic.php?f=48&t=1230

But it is another story. Let's make the HDMI sound function usable first.

Pulseaudio has an issue for now, so don't install Pulseaudio.
If you have installed Pulseaudio, purge it.

$ sudo apt-get purge pulseaudio

Configure ALSA

http://elinux.org/Parallella_Speed_Up_U ... figuration

Install and configure smplayer

http://elinux.org/Parallella_Linaro_Nan ... dia_player

Re: USB Hard drive and usb stick not creating devices

No problems with the USB hard drive. I am using it now to build hamlib, wsjt, wspr, etc.
I'll check on the alsa kernel build.

smplayer played the wav file without a problem. Apps built and installed from /dev/sda1.

Configured parallella-linux-adi-xcomm_zynq, built and installed the new uImage.
*** Tip - kernel .config needs all needed options to be built-in, i.e set to =y.
Up and running again. USB sound card detected.

Great! Thank you for the report.

We have to configure ~/.asoundrc manually to output sounds from USB sound adapter.

Could you post your verified USB peripherals to Parallella Wiki?
