Parallella unresponsive

Postby Aegben » Wed Jun 04, 2014 12:25 am

I've recently received a Parallella board and I am having a fair amount of trouble getting it up and running. After trying a number of solutions proposed here, it still won't go. Regardless of what I try, I get two green LED's lit on the board (CR8 and CR10). Upon powering the board, CR8 lights followed shortly by CR10. Both are steady on, and that's all the board will do.

Here are some details which may or may not be helpful:
1. The power supply is 5V, 3A (came with the accessory kit).
2. The SD card was created per the instructions provided at http://www.parallella.org/create-sdcard/. The card was created using Windows/Win32 Disk Imager, and later inspection in Linux showed that both the BOOT and rootfs partitions had been written.
3. The LED's do not blink (steady on, both of them).
4. There is no HDMI output.
5. Connecting the USB/HDMI/Ethernet either before or after power-up (or not at all) changes nothing.
6. The heatsink is installed. There is no fan (yet), but I have not powered the board for more than a minute or two at a time.
7. There is no output from the serial port. The other device (also a 3.3V device) was configured for 115200, 8N1 and could talk to itself using a loopback setup.
8. After connecting the board to a router, DHCP does not assign an IP address to it. The green LED on the RJ-45 connector lights, but the other LED does not.
9. This behavior has been the same every single time I have powered the board.
10. Full disclosure: I have not read the manual thoroughly, only the quick start guide.

Could anyone provide some insight into this issue? Thanks in advance.

Some input:
Even if your board has no SD card, there should be some output to the serial port, so you must have an issue with the serial cable.

Alternatively, it is likely you have the wrong or no files in the BOOT sector of the SD card - check if there are three files (uImage, parallella.bit.bin and devicetree.dtb)

https://github.com/parallella/parallell ... n?raw=true
http://downloads.parallella.org/boot/li ... efault.tgz

The Ethernet and HDMI will only start working after the linux boot starts, so this is likely the problem as the fact that two LEDs light is telling you the board has power and the Zynq/FPGA is awake.
