HDMI sound not working with new bit.bin

Postby shodruk » Wed Aug 13, 2014 1:13 pm

I still can't get sounds through HDMI using parallella_e16_hdmi_gpiose_7020.bit.bin. :?

SMPlayer, aplay and other sound programs hang when playing sounds via HDMI.
How can I solve this?
(I have no problem with rel.14.02.06/parallella.bit.bin)

using these files.
8676219f8067cab68589f0ab7a105651 ubuntu-14.04-140611.img.gz
8eab4b6228e32a0432279f76de51300f kernel-hdmi-140603.tgz
d920ca30ce6c1a9b1da841fa18e5dda3 parallella_e16_hdmi_gpiose_7020.bit.bin

Parallella board: A101040

I've tested with 3 different HDMI monitors (true HDMI).

Has anyone succeeded to get HDMI sound working with parallella_e16_hdmi_gpiose_7020.bit.bin?

I really want to solve this problem.
Please help me.

Hi Shodruky, I thought the problem happened with the new SD image rather than the bitstream, so I was blaming software. :o Are you saying below that you can take the current OS image and get sound to work or fail by changing -only- the bitstream?

by changing only the bitstream.

I installed these files, HDMI sound didn't work.
Then I simply replaced the parallella.bit.bin with the file in the rel.14.02.06.tgz, it works normally.

I've tested these commands with both bit.bin files, the outputs are exactly the same.

Code: Select all
cat /proc/asound/cards
cat /proc/asound/devices
cat /proc/asound/pcm
cat /proc/asound/timers
aplay -l
aplay -L

like below.

* MPlayer outputs some errors, but these are normal.

Also dmesgs are almost the same except "auto-serial-console" lines.

The only difference is that MPlayer just freezes at start with the new bit.bin file. (can be stopped with ctrl-c)
I've tested with audio files instead of video files, the result is the same.

Hi, I have exactly the same problem. I wish I hadn't spent so long investigating it before looking here!
Unfortunately I have the 7010 version so won't be able to have working audio without a new FPGA file release.
