Only 2 out of 5 monitors work

Postby theller » Fri Nov 07, 2014 7:57 pm

Hello,
I have tried 5 monitors and only 2 worked. I really need the other 3 to work. They are a Gateway fpd1765, Hp em869a, dell 1907fpt.

I am using an hdmi to dvi adaptor and my thought is if 2 work the problem is not in the adaptor or cables.

I just downloaded and made a new image and still they don't work. Here is the /var/log/Xorg.0.log while attached to the Hp:

I guess that's how it is... compatibility issue. My LG HDMI monitor didn't work but my Sony Bravia TV with HDMI worked.

I think it's more likely to be a matter of the monitor not supporting the default resolution, rather than a true compatibility issue.

I'd suggest checking what modes your monitor(s) support and then setting the resolution appropriately in the devicetree database and xorg configuration. See:

http://elinux.org/Parallella_Speed_Up_U ... o_1280x720

For the devicetree, you will need to decompile the stock one, make the edit and then recompile it.

I have tried forcing the resolution according to the link you supplied. I set it to 1280x1024.

When I run this
xrandr -q
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1280 x 1024, maximum 4096 x 4096
HDMI-0 connected 1280x1024+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 376mm x 301mm
1024x768 60.0
800x600 60.3 56.2
848x480 60.0
640x480 59.9
1280x1024 (0x42) 108.0MHz
h: width 1280 start 1328 end 1440 total 1688 skew 0 clock 64.0KHz
v: height 1024 start 1025 end 1028 total 1066 clock 60.0Hz

Is it odd that it is set to 108MHz?

Here is something else I noticed:
the one monitor that works says on the back 50-60Hz 0.7A (I will check the other one when I get home)
The ones that don't work have 50-60Hz 1.0A, 1.5A & 1.3A

Could it be only monitors that require <1.0A work with the parallella?

Not sure about your monitor/mode frequency. It's a while since I played around with xorg configuration, but it could be something in there. Hopefully someone else can comment.

The power ratings of the monitors will be a red herring — whatever current they draw from the mains certainly should not have a bearing on the Parallella.
