Firefox is always crashing

Postby Lou_Reed » Mon Jan 26, 2015 2:18 pm

On my Parallella, the Firefox application is always crashing. It then gives me the choice restarting Firefox or quitting Firefox. I choose to restart

However, Firefox should not crash so often. I have used in on other Linux builds on an Intel Xeon and it almost never crashes.

How do I fix this?

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Firefox kept crashing on my Parallella until I set up some swap space.

Okay, I created a swap file using the procedure that you can find here.

http://www.kevssite.com/2013/10/13/add- ... swap-file/

I followed the whole process, except the last step about modifying the

fstab file. I am not sure why I must do that. Anyway, it would not let me do anything to the

fstab file. What do I modify the fastab file for and are the instruction correct at the link above to do so?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

If you run "swapon /swapfile", then the swap file is active.
If you add the line "/swapfile none swap defaults 0 0" to the end of your /etc/fstab, then the swap file will be activated on every boot.

Okay, I have created a swap file of size 512 MB. It seems to have ameliorated, but not solved the problem.

Firefox still crashes, but not as much. My guess is the swap file is doing its job, but it could stand to be a bit larger.

What is the ideal size of the swap file for the Parallella.

I am afraid that in answering this question the first sentence of any reply will say "it depends".

But be that as it may, what is an ideal swap file size?

Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

just for add my voice to this problem:
i created a swap partition (2GB) (need to activate manually every boot because fstab is not working /dev or id are the same)
get to firefox about:config and search for memory, set all the cache (and some voice that i think to understand to 0 but this didn't solve the problem.
don't know where to look elsewhere.

Edit: i'm using dillo that run fine, just a bit tricky to use but nice for simple reading action on hte web (like links)

It depends! The other standard reply is 1x to 2x the amount of physical memory.
