what is the peak power consumption of the board without the 16/64 core accelerator?

Peak power consumption could depend a lot on what design is loaded into the programmable logic - It can use up to 1.5W, compared to the 1.25W used by the Processor core. DDR memory could add another 1.2W.

The Zynq power consumption will vary greatly depending on program running and the PL. The current power management solution supports up to 1.5A on a supply rail dedicated to the zynq core supply. Our initial board peak power goal was 5 Watts, but the upgrade to the 7020 has pushed us past that goal. As soon as we have the whole system up and running we will provide power traces with real work loads running. We're getting close...

Is there any provision to be able to beef up the core supply ?
Like being able to supply it externally or something.

A possible "hack" would be to drive in a supply through the PEC connector and to take off the pmic from the parallella board (or just the inductors in case the issue is on the buck converter outputs). Here is the document to the Samtec connector characterization report. Still not 100% sure how much current those pins can carry:-)

At some point, if the board is maxed out it will get hot (physics..) so current drive is not the only challenge.
