Debugging First Boot

Postby Janos » Thu Mar 06, 2014 1:30 pm

I am having problems getting my board to boot.

Had an issue with the size of the SD card: .

I've since tried with Shodruk's Linaro Nano image and 9600's Debian 7.0 image. The images were installed with no errors reported. They were sync'ed before removal. I can mount the partitions and view files.

Board is connected to a bench supply delivering 5.000 Volts. The supply can deliver 5 Amps at 5 Volts. I tested, today, the output of the bench supply using a quality volt metre.
Board connections: cat5 to the RJ45 connector and the 5 Volt supply. No other connection at this time, including USB or HDMI.

The board green LED comes on and stays on, no other LED's light. The RJ45 connector lights never come on.
After a minute or so, I connect the HDMI and there is no output.
The board consumes a steady 0.170 to 0.180 Amps.

Any ideas?

New SD card on order.

Can you recommend a Parallella serial console kit?

Cheers

I was wondering if there was an image or code base which tests the hardware?

How do you function test the hardware pre-shipping?

Thanks for your help guys, I am up and running.

Turned out to be two fold.

1. Faulty SD card. The board still will not boot from the 16GB card (with any image) even though no fault is reported by Linux on the card. The new card is 32GB and seems quite fast.

2. The power cable from my bench supply to the board was 1.5m long and quite thin. I suspect it was limiting the current flow too much, that or had some internal damage. A nice short, fat cable installed and the board booted first time. Board currently running at 5.090V and 1.296 to 1.307A.

Thanks again for your help. Much appreciated.

Fantastic to hear that you are up and running! Now looking forward to hearing about what you do with your board :)

Also it'd be great if you could update the , firstly with details of the confirmed working card, and then of the card you couldn't get to work under the unsuitable heading.

Cheers,

Andrew

The card which works is a Kingston Digital SDC4/32GB-AMZ card. The 16GB card has already been thrown out.
