USB Hard drive and usb stick not creating devices

It played 3 short bursts rather than the complete wav file on the HDMI sound.
The USB sound card is not picked up on reboot, no light is on the device now. Replugged it and dmesg says:-

It seems that devtmpfs was enabled on your Parallella.
Maybe you can use USB drives.
USB sound adapter is not enabled by default for now because it is disabled by kernel config.
If you want to use a USB sound adapter, you have to modify the kernel config and rebuild the kernel.

But it is another story. Let's make the HDMI sound function usable first.

Pulseaudio has an issue for now, so don't install Pulseaudio.
If you have installed Pulseaudio, purge it.

$ sudo apt-get purge pulseaudio

Configure ALSA

No problems with the USB hard drive. I am using it now to build hamlib, wsjt, wspr, etc.
I'll check on the alsa kernel build.

smplayer played the wav file without a problem. Apps built and installed from /dev/sda1.

Configured parallella-linux-adi-xcomm_zynq, built and installed the new uImage.
*** Tip - kernel .config needs all needed options to be built-in, i.e set to =y.
Up and running again. USB sound card detected.
