Possibility for better clusters in the future?

Postby Uskshyorm » Sun Apr 27, 2014 7:31 pm

Hi,

Looking that the page for the Epiphany-IV I see this system example diagram:

This suggests to me that it's not really necessary to construct a cluster using one Znyq per Epiphany as is the case in the 4 board mini-cluster shown in the store front page.

I was wondering if, after the 64 core boards were completed, there were any plans for Epiphany boards without the Zynq that be connected to the current Parallella boards.

Since four Epiphany chips can be connected together, is it possible to create a hypercube using 16 boards?

The north/south restriction only holds for the Parallella board. In general the Epiphany architecture extends as a 2D mesh (N/E/W/S) and IT IS possible to connect an array as hypercube, although I wouldn't say it's fully supported as it would require some kind of software layer on top of the memory mapped transactions.

Thanks all. Would be interesting to model a hypercube arrangement to see just what kind of computational power may be realized. I will give it a go and post it here.
