First time Parallella booting

Postby speccy » Thu May 08, 2014 1:34 pm

Hi, I did the first step to put the Linux image on the SD card and powered the board.

I don't have a Micro HDMI adapter at the moment, is it possible to log in with SSH right now? Is there a static IP assigned to the Parallella or its DHCP? I dont have a router, I want to plug the board directly in my laptop, is it possible to do so?

Thanks for your help

Default configuration uses DHCP.

You should be able to connect it direct to your laptop, with a crossover network cable. And I believe that Windows and Mac both have some form of "connection sharing" functionality, whereby they will run a DHCP server and act as a firewall/NAT so that another machine can share the Internet connection. E.g. laptop connecting out over WiFi and Parallella connecting to it over Ethernet.

Cheers,

Andrew

This guide is for the Raspberry Pi, but I imagine the networking tips are just as relevant to the Parallella:
