Motorola LapDock, made Parallela portable

Postby holgt » Sat May 10, 2014 7:35 am

Hi there, just want to show my portable Parallela, powered and hosted by the Motorola Lapdock, which i grabbed for my raspberry (60€ ca.)
Power is provided from the Lapdock Battery via USB, HDMI out to Lapdock HDMI in (Micro male to Micro Female using adapters),
Keyboard and Trackpad from the lap dock are working fine.
Also the resolution and anything else recognized right off using ubuntu-lxde-14.03.06-rootfs.tar.gz.
As cooling fan i am using some old 12V fan powered by a 9V battery.
On the picture you can see a peak, for which i removed the fan for some time (2mins ca.) above 70 the the color changed to yellow, nice feature
from my Raspberry setup i still need to find out, how to use the WIFI usb stick to have a completely portable parallela :D :

I'd been thinking about getting a Lapdoc... Very cool and thanks for sharing :)

Cheers,

Did you set your board up using the Lapdock, or did you get everything running using another monitor, keyboard, etc?

I finally got everything set up right and the login screen came up on the lapdock, but nothing responds to the keyboard or track pad. I'm not sure what to try next. I'm searching the forum for similar problems.

I bought the Motorola Atrix Lapdock that appears to be most popular with the RaspberryPi. I've got the Parallella board attached via a short micro HDMI cable (male to female), the board powered via USB from the lapdock (although I also tried it powered from the wall). After the login screen comes up, I can't do anything. Any suggestions on what to do, or even where and what to search for help, would be appreciated. Thanks.

Since I'm getting power through the USB cable, I wonder if the Parallella board is trying to control the keyboard and mouse that way and not through the HDMI cable. Unfortunately, my power supply appears to be bad, so I can't boot without the USB connected, and I can't fix the USB problems without logging in. I'm not knowledgeable enough to easily connect remotely, but I may have to figure that out. Hopefully I can find an easy tutorial. (I'm also working on getting the PSU replaced).

Well as you might see on the pics, i am powering the board seperately with a second USB to Power Cable from one of the LapDock USB Ports.
This way solved the problem for using mouse and keyboard (for me)
