Parallella Community

Adapteva basically overcharged me by $500 and I haven't had any luck getting it back.

Back when it wasn't obvious that the Parallela kickstarter would reach its goal, I pledged $975 for the "cluster" reward. When I saw the kickstarter reached it's goal, I backed off to the "mini cloud" level ($495). Unfortunately, while the Kickstarter UI showed I had changed the reward, it left the dollar amount at $975. I didn't catch this until my credit card was billed $975.

I reached out to Kickstarter, and they told me to take it up with Adapteva, since the money had already been transferred. I messaged Adapteva through Kickstarter, and got a reply saying that the difference would be refunded once they figured out "how it works". By the end of November, nothing had happened, so I sent Adapteva a second message through Kickstarter. I never received a reply to that message.

Since then I lost my job, and recovering the money become more urgent for me. (Anybody hiring a Linux developer in the San Francisco Bay area?) Over the last month, I've left about four voicemail messages at the phone number listed on Adapteva's website. I was never able to get through to a live person, and my calls were never returned. (Incidentally, the extension for "sales" seems to be entirely disconnected in their phone menu system. Odd.)

I'm still hopeful that the crew at Adapteva is just too overworked and that I've slipped through the cracks, but this is frustrating. I'm not asking for all of my money to be refunded, and I'm still excited about the Parallella--I'm just broke.

Help?

So, Adapteva's idea of ASAP is five months plus and counting?

If you think Adapteva is being unfair or think they may have taken your money, then work out something with them and I will be glad to take your place in line for a Parallella and give you your money!

I know it's been a couple weeks since you replied--I've been busy looking for employment, and I've been thinking about how to respond to you.

First, my main complaint about the situation is that I can't get any type of response from them, and that makes it impossible for me to "work something out with them."

If my financial situation doesn't improve by the time the Parallella ships, I might still be interested in your offer.
