RFE: Video Capability

Postby notzed » Sat Aug 23, 2014 2:21 am

Currently there is a "graphics" capability through the framebuffer but it falls far short of that required for video. So here's some suggestions in order of suggested priority (and roughly inverse complexity). I'm mostly interested in the first one which isn't there that I can tell, the others may be but i'm listing them here because they're related.

1) Vertical blanking interrupt accessible via FBIO_WAITFORVSYNC. Polling would be completely worthless.

2) Multi-buffering. At least double, preferably triple. I don't even know how this is done with linux - panning?

3) Runtime mode changes (including frame-rates).

4) 16-bit modes.

5) A YUV mode.

6) Multiple playfields (aka 'overlays').

For me (1) is a must have.
