Epiphany IDE (Eclipse)

Postby Takouh » Mon Feb 18, 2013 9:18 am

Hi All,

I do not have the Parallella board yet, but I wanted to start with the Epiphany programming to see how it is like.
I got the Epiphany SDK source code from github and I have just built it. I am looking for the Epiphany eclipse based IDE which is mentioned in the SDK reference, but I cannot find it. I am wondering if it is included in the current version of the SDK or it is only available to those who have the board already. Can anyone provide me with some information in this regard?

Thank you!

Hi Takouh,

The Eclipse IDE is currently only available to those who have the early SDK access.

doesn't this violate the eclipse-license?

When will the rest of the kickstarter supporters have access to the development environment. I see there is a simulator and am ready to start programming. :)

Thanks for the link, I was looking for something more like an Eclipse environment that I could just fire up, but if it is build it from pieces parts, ok.

I have a number of interests, one is seeing how processors dedicated to functions that can run in parallel, interacting via message passing, will work out. I have some concern about the small memory, but I built a networked, smart system once in a total of 64k, so I'm not too concerned. I used QNX for a number of years and loved the message passing between tasks. The other thing I'd like to try is more like SMP. I am taking a couple of courses from Udacity right now that might feed into this, one is AI in Robotics, one is Intro to Parallel processing which is running on graphics processors, and another is Interactive 3D Graphics.

Lots to play with.

@Len,

We don't have an e-eclipse port for the ARM platform, and I couldn't find an eclipse CDT port for that platform as well. I use eclipse on my PC for writing code, copying the packages to the Parallella computer to build and test.

The e-eclipse was developed for our EMEK platform. Hopefully in time we will enhance our plugin to allow streamlined code development on the PC and remote debug on the Parallella. Note that the purpose of the e-server is to run on the target and serve the gdb frontend command sent over TCP/IP from the PC.

I would be interested in compiling on a PC and downloading to the target. It would be nice to have a comprehensive set of instructions for setting up that environment or even better just an installer.

It is most likely not the same ARM version, but I had Eclipse running on a Raspberry PI under Linux. It is the Debian Wheezy. That was pretty straightforward to set up. It is just incredibly slow. It should perform better with two cores and more memory. The PI only has 512k.

Interesting. Do you have a pointer to that eclipse port?
