Parallella + Kinect + PCL

Postby anupkini » Fri Mar 15, 2013 11:50 am

Hi All,

I was looking at the Smart TV video, where, towards the end the video shows a live stream from Kinect displayed in one of the viewports.

I have been trying to get the Kinect to stream on ARM board but couldnt succeed due to platform dependencies.
It would be great if someone from Parallella team or other experts here could share details on hwo to stream kinect data on ARM Platform.

Thanks,
Anup.

Hi,

It would be very nice to learn the details of how a Kinect sensor was used with/connected to a Parallella board [the Kickstarter update #17 (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ada ... sts/335408) and the mentioned "SuperTV" video].

Hopefully, members of the Parallella team can share their experience with us. A small how-to/tutorial would be much appreciated!

As anupkini said, other experts on this forum could help providing insights on the subject. Especially the ones that have already received their Parallella board(s) and have a Kinect sensor somewhere around them!

Thanks!

Hello Ampm,

i would recommend the lightweight in-official driver https://github.com/OpenKinect/libfreenect
The normal arm cpu should handle the usb traffic/interruptions and simple analysis tasks without performance issues (It's possible to run Libfreenect on a beagleboard, which has much lower specifications.)
For Image processing you can combine Libfreenect with OpenCV.
