Forum interface changes

Postby xilman » Mon Mar 09, 2015 2:11 pm

Not sure where to post this one, but here appears to be the least inappropriate.

Something has changed for the worse recently. Back in the good old days a visit to the forum in a new browser session and I would be automagically logged in. Nowadays, I have to log in anew every time and retype my credentials, username and password. Checking the "login automatically" box doesn't have any noticeable effect.

Worse, if the session is left unattended for a short while (20 minutes perhaps?) I'm logged out and have to go through the whole rigmarole again.

Finally, the system (either my browser or forum software or both) would remember the time of previous visits and which posts I'd read, coloring the icons appropriately. This was very useful as I could just click on the red (not read!) ones.

The browser has been Opera running on 64-bit Linux since long before I joined the forum. As it's a Gentoo box, updates are applied frequently but I've not noticed the disturbing behaviour on other fora.

Anyone else seeing behaviour like this?

Yes I'm also seeing this problem where you have to log in again pretty much every time you do anything. It's especially annoying when coming from a notification email as then it happens even if you are already logged in.

It would be great if this could be fixed :)

I believe the red/blue for unread/read posts comes from the forum when you're logged in, not from your browser. So you're not seeing it working right because you're not logged in (because it keeps logging you out...)

Yes, seeing this behavior and agree that it is annoying! It happened after we made parallella.org secure. I don't know how to fix it will have to search around. If anyone has any ideas, please speak up.
(unfortunately this will have to take a back seat to some other stuff :( )

This is not a fix if the security is considered important, but you can get round the problem by editing the url from https:// to http:// when you connect.

Actually, I'm still finding that I get logged off, even without the secure connection. It seems to happen less frequently, though, but that could be my imagination.
