goldelico openmoko ecc.

Postby adexmont » Tue Mar 17, 2015 2:27 pm

Well it's quite a while that i'm following the openmoko project but they r growing slowly, the market is quite small and the price it's high enough to make it out of my capability.

BTW i had ask them if porting their debian version to parallella would be easy enough to be done as a fun project for spare time.

Here start some misunderstood :) ... they will be happy top add a new hardware on their support list but i was understood as the porter for that (that's not going to happen in my lifetime) so ...maybe... if some of you are interested in doing a step in hte direction of goldelico-openmoko project, they will be happy to help but dunno terms and condition.

Maybe you can contact them for more information, don't know how this could happen, but merging parallella and open moko look fair enough to double the market at my eyes.

Think about that.

Thanks

I used to have an Openmoko handset and there is a name I hadn't heard in a while!

While I can see your line of thought, that would take a lot of time and money and I think there are much higher priorities. Plus, while the Parallella is extremely energy-efficient when it comes to floating-point operations, I can't imagine that the Zynq would make a good SoC for a smartphone. They tend to be designed specifically for use in mobile handsets and have features that allow you to eek out the longest possible battery life, while doing precisely what they need to (and not having luxuries such as an FPGA and gigabit Ethernet etc...)

Now, a smartphone SoC with integrated Epiphany would be very interesting, and something that I hope we will see one day!

Regards,

Andrew

sorry if i insist on this OT... but this is a good news that change the card on the table:
viewtopic.php?f=50&t=2211
what i write here is wrong ?

if i download this and then install x11 ecc i should be able to run a gui ?
https://github.com/parallella/pubuntu/r ... 0.1.img.gz

I thought that headless means that there wasn't the FPGA part relative to the HDMI (that may free some space for customers).

Thanks, i will try :)
