Parts to make HA router using parallella.

Postby hmiranda » Fri Mar 27, 2015 5:51 pm

Hi, I love networks from the early days of modems, for the only reason that a kid may love IT, to play games ( back then, doom using a serial cable, was awesome ), today I perform as DevOPS for a large company in the health sector, the last 9 years I was doing work as DBA Oracle for RAC systems ( Large databases actually ), was really fun but after I finish my work I check servers, improve network bottle neck, my feeling is that every aspect of IT with a bad network is affected. ( and I did study electronics before become a Civil Engineer IT ).

So, that is my background, going back to the topic, I want to build a router ( the current board have only one Interface, so the only way to make this as a router is making the board talk VLAN (trunking or LAG ). but I will love to build a HA router ( two boards ). But I am not sure if the boards supports the heartbeat and interconnect traffic using the elink cables...

if I need to put a router 4G LTE that gives me a GPS signal ( the elink will support that ? ) To be honest I was waiting for the 64 cores edition, I did arrive late for the initial kick of this project but is time to put my hands in a parallella system.

I read that are a few boards with the elinks connector, for NZ are 66 + 36 shipping :( cost that is high, but we are out of stock :(. Board amazon don't sale the Zynq 7020 Edition :(, not sure how much difference will make a Zynq 7010 vs Zynq 7020 for what I want to build, but the server edition don't comes with the elink connectors. I think I will end buying two desktops.

That lead to my next question, today if I want to sort a cluster KIT (no clue from where at this stage) and a desktop board (from amazon), it is not possible from the factory ? anyone i here have a cluster that is not using ?

Thanks in advance and sorry for this large message, I hope adding some background information may help, may not.
