Hi ,

Although ssh is the only way to connect the board, I don't know the IP address which the board gets.
Didn't putty or ssh need the IP address to allow the other computer to access?

Yes. That's why I told you to connect the Parallella to your local router. Then, check the router's web interface to see all connected devices. It should list the Parallella and its IP address.
