Need Beginners Guide / FAQ

Postby DanHouldsworth » Wed Aug 28, 2013 11:15 am

Hi

Now the Parallella community is growing, it would be great to nurture new potential talent that could contribute to / learn from the parallel computing movement.

Key 'beginner' style questions to help (people like me!) get cracking with our new Parallella boards would be :

- What are some example problems that fit well with a CPU and some that fit will with a GPU?
- What is a suitable follow up program to 'Hello, world!' that helps me appreciate the multi-core device I have in my hands?
- Do problems that rely on global memory rather than local memory tend to just be those with large data sets or is there more to it?
- Can the Parallella drive fast refresh rates of images / multiple objects via the HDMI or does it need an external GPU board for this?

I'm sure there will be plenty more where those came from so if someone could set up a thread / area to capture for Beginners that would be great!

Surely I can't be the only newcomer to parallel programming here?

If this is a duplicate, could someone point me towards some other threads.

Many thanks,
Dan.
