It sounds good, asicguy, and I'll be most interested to see how it works out. (Plus as I said, I'm hugely supportive of the general concept of open source GPUs, which we've needed badly for a long time.)

My remarks were only intended to point out that the Zynq's FPGA imposes strong constraints on what is possible, so whether the end result is suitable will depend on the application and it won't have the same answer for everybody. There are many general enthusiasts on this forum with limited appreciation of engineering limits and implementation constraints, so keeping one foot on the ground about limitations when discussing such a popular topic as GPUs is probably advisable.

I certainly wish you fair winds (it's a lot of work) and will be following your progress with hope.

Incidentally, I think that your GPU-like project is an excellent idea.

In effect you're making another open source graphics processing system, even if it's not called a "GPU", and harnessing Epiphany parallelism to power it. That sounds both powerful and novel in the space mostly populated by conventional GPUs. :)

I think this topic should be split between discussions of the kickstarter by asicguy and the viability of implementing a gpu on the parallella.
