GPU Daughter Card

Postby TrikingSheep » Sun Feb 09, 2014 6:39 pm

So Guys,

I was thinking of looking at designing a GPU daughter card.

Now the ODROID U3 has the Mali-400 Quad Core 440MHz and the XU has the PowerVR SGX544MP3 GPU (OpenGL ES 2.0, OpenGL ES 1.1 and OpenCL 1.1 EP).

I'm sure there's other boards with different GPUs.

I'm just wondering which would be the best to use, or if it's worth doing, apart from the fun of doing so.

Kind Regards,

Julian.

From a "just for fun" perspective, the GPU with OpenCL support sounds like a way to provide yet another parallel computing paradigm on the Parallella.

That might make Parallella a useful tool for evaluating the effectiveness of different parallel solutions - each potential algorithm could be tried out on in SMP (ARM cores), FPGA, distributed-memory (Epiphany) and GPU flavours. And one wouldn't have to buy an example of each type of system to test them all.

OK, dreaming mode off... Monday morning looms.

You might want to look at NVIDIA's Tegra K1; it looks quite interesting.
