My backer board is on hold at customs office.

Postby phoyd » Tue Mar 04, 2014 8:43 pm

My backer board is currently on hold at the customs office (in Germany). I received at letter today which says that they need a invoice for the package, so they can estimate import sales tax. Apparently, there's no invoice in the package and I' not even sure if a Kickstarter reward counts as a purchase at all. I don't even know how to prove the payment, because all I could produce would be a credit card transaction from October 2012 to Kickstarter. What are your experiences regarding the import of your reward boards into your country?

There should have been an invoice on the outside of the package specifically for customs. We will look into what happened immediately and report back.

I've just picked up the package from the customs office. Apparently the logistics experts at DHL didn't bother to turn the package over, the customs declaration was still attached to the bottom of the package.

What was that for? I just paid £21.28 in charges for one board, with £8 of that being their handling charge and the rest VAT. Taxes are just one of those things I'm afraid (although the handling charge seems a bit steep!)

Cheers,

Andrew

My package (sent to Germany) was sent to the customs office too. Perhaps they did not care to look at the bottom...But as far as I know, an invoice does not replace the missing customs declaration. This has to be printed on the adress label.
At the moment I'm preparing all the documents (shipping notification, credit-card statement, etc) to fax these to the customs office. Don't want to take a 25km trip...
